I’m a phantom when it comes to portraiture; it’s some weird phenomenon that affects my family. We could be spirited away tomorrow and there would never be any proof of our existing. In candids we are tucked away; in group photos we succumb to shadows. It’s so interesting how three generations are all afflicted by the ailment that seems allergic to cameras.

NATIONAL DREAM DAY
Check your calendars — it’s National Dream Day! I had no clue such an event existed before today. It’s inception was designed for us to remember and realize that we can go after any dream we set our minds to, big or small, no matter what.
As a professional dreamer, I can endorse this type of day wholeheartedly! It sticks out to me for another reason, as well: a series of mine centering around dreams, both literal and metaphorical, has always been written to have started on or around this time of March. Specifically March 12, but I wonder if I should change it to March 11!

A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE
I had a reclamation of self today. Upon unearthing my old YouTube channel, now I know tangibly who I used to be. There is definitive evidence of my being, of my interests, of my dreams. I quite enjoyed knowing that there are still pieces of me that exist out there, things that have been untouched by time :)

THE CREDITS FOR THE END OF THE WORLD
I had a dream last night where the world was ending, this time through a flood. As the water climbed higher, and as we tried to escape how icy it was, we eventually reached the terminal point, a wooden balcony atop a large station, and after that, there would be nowhere else to go. As I and many other strangers accepted our fate, the water ceased rising, and the world darkened slightly. Off in the distance, credits played over the blue sky like it was a movie screen, and soft, tinny trumpets echoed around us.

LIVING THE DREAM
I had a dream last night for the first time in five months. A real, solid, lucid dream, one that I could tangibly remember having once I woke up again. My God, did I enjoy it. It was the perfect combination of all the things I daydream about in my waking life; drama, emotional satisfaction, and a cohesive narrative. It even had a soundtrack! I forget just how much fulfillment I get from my dreams until I had to go a long stretch without them. That one little thing made me smile for the rest of the day. Ah, now if only I’d have such enjoyment in reality!

THE PLEASURE OBLIVION
My brain remembers pleasure only for a short time. Within minutes I forget what a hug feels like. Within moments I forget a voice. Even faces become vague impressions of oil paints after sometime. Everything swirls, or maybe blurs, like an internal world without glasses to guide me.

PEOPLE ARE ALIKE ALL OVER
The greatest thing about people is that the only thing that separates us is language. No matter where you go, they do the same things. They talk. They laugh. They love their children. They dread their commute to work. They head to the store for groceries. They catch up with their friends. They wake up. They go to bed. People are alike all over.

NEVER BEEN IN LOVE
I’ve been in relationships. I’ve had crushes. I’ve loved and have received love, but I have never been in love. I’ve told people I love them, and I do- love is abundant and should be given freely, but I’ve never been absolutely smitten with a man in a romantic sense, where I would never want to be apart from him again. Therefore, I’ve never been in love.

RESPONSIBLE
Do you ever wonder if you’ve ever indirectly caused someone’s death? Maybe you drove too slow through an intersection and a stranger behind you dies. Maybe your delay at a check-out lane afterwards put them in the right place at the wrong time. Very tragic, yet you’d never know.

TELEMARKETER SCAM
A telemarketer called today. I answered and didn’t say a word, just breathed heavily into the receiver for a minute like my lungs were filling up with fluid and I was on hospice care. The call was barely over before my mom and I burst out into laughter, and it was so worth the pain in my diaphragm. I hope we remember that forever.
